About This Role

Crossroads Truck & Career Academy is seeking a qualified Personal Support Worker Instructor to deliver our comprehensive PSW with Certifications program. This hybrid position involves primarily remote teaching of live online theory sessions, with required in-person attendance at our Ottawa campus for practical skills training and practicum coordination.

The ideal candidate is a Personal Support Worker with extensive field experience across multiple care settings who is passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise with the next generation of PSWs.

Key Responsibilities

Program Delivery & Instruction:

  • Develop comprehensive lesson plans for all subjects in accordance with approved course curriculum and PSW Standard 2022
  • Ensure lesson plans address all vocational learning outcomes, elements of performance, and performance objectives as outlined in the PSW Standard.
  • Deliver engaging live online (synchronous) theory instruction for all subjects
  • Conduct in-person practical skills training sessions at our Ottawa campus
  • Monitor and enforce attendance requirements throughout the program

Student Assessment & Support:

  • Develop & administer tests, assignments, presentations and practical evaluations
  • Identify students at risk and implement early intervention strategies
  • Complete mid-term progress reports for all students
  • Provide timely feedback on student progress
  • Maintain accurate records of grades, attendance, and performance

Practicum Coordination & Supervision:

  • Identify, contact, and arrange practicum placement with long-term care facilities and community care agencies
  • Coordinate placement schedules and prepare required documentation
  • Conduct weekly virtual check-ins with students during practicum
  • Visit placement facilities to monitor student progress

Administrative & Technology Duties:

  • Document all evaluations, attendance records, and communications with students
  • Stay current with changes to Ontario legislation affecting PSW training
  • Deliver instruction using Microsoft Teams and similar online platforms
  • Communicate effectively via email, online platforms and phone

Qualifications & Requirements

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary Personal Support Worker education (college diploma, Career college certificate, or Certificate of Qualification)
  • PLUS 48 months (4 years) of PSW work or teaching experience within the last 10 years
  • Reliable high-speed internet connection required for online instruction and student communication

Additional Requirements:

  • Current PSW certification (PSW graduates with direct field experience)
  • Current Vulnerable Sector Check (within the past 6 months)
  • Negative TB test within the past 12 months and up-to-date immunization record
  • Current CPR/First Aid, Level C certification
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Eligibility to work in Canada
  • Excellent communication Skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Extensive hands-on experience working as a Personal Support Worker in multiple care settings
  • Established relationships with healthcare facilities in the region
  • Previous teaching, training or mentoring experience
  • Experience supervising or precepting students
  • Experience with hybrid/online teaching delivery
  • Current certifications in Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) – strong asset
  • Current certification in Acquired Brain Injury training – strong asset
  • Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset

Working Conditions

Schedule & Location:

  • Full-time contract position, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM (may vary based on program schedule)
  • PRIMARILY REMOTE – Typical Week Breakdown
    • Weeks 1-11 : Remote instruction via Microsoft Teams
    • Throughout Weeks 1-11: In-person at Ottawa campus for practical skills (5 days total per class schedule)
    • Weeks 12-16: Remote coordination + occasional practicum site visits
  • Minimal travel required – mileage reimbursement

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly rate: $25-28/hour (based on qualifications and experience)
